Peer Review Process
JSJA uses a community-based peer review model designed to affirm and elevate voices rather than gatekeep them.
Our process includes:
- Each submission is reviewed by 2–3 reviewers (a mix of scholars and community practitioners)
- Reviewers provide feedback rooted in rigor, cultural relevance, and clarity
- Authors may be invited to revise and resubmit their work
- Final decisions are made by the editorial board
We believe feedback should be empowering, not punitive. We aim to build writers up, not shut them out.
